Delivering on global climate commitments requires more than technological transformation — it requires investing in people. The Jobs and Skills for the New Economy flagship report shows that the success of the transition will depend on whether countries and businesses can work with communities to develop the skills and workforce transition systems needed to support new industries, create quality jobs and ensure that communities benefit from economic transformation.

This will require action on three fronts: better data and planning to embed jobs and skills into climate and economic strategies; better delivery to strengthen skills systems, labor-market intelligence and matching mechanisms that connect people with emerging opportunities; and better finance for long-term workforce transformation. Achieving this will require broad-based partnerships between governments and businesses, financial institutions, labor organizations, civil society, academia and education providers. The Global Initiative on Jobs & Skills for the New Economy aims to bring together countries, industry, finance and implementing partners to progress this three-part agenda.

Taking place during New York Climate Week, this event will bring together governments, international organizations and development partners to discuss what the Initiative could deliver in the next 3-5 years and how momentum could be built through major national and international milestone moments (e.g. COPs, UN and WB IMF meetings as well as other global meetings).
