The first conference on transitioning away from fossil fuels was held in Santa Marta, Colombia, from 24-29 April. Under the leadership of co-hosts The Netherlands and Colombia, countries discussed how to transition away and addressed challenges they encounter as they work to implement this outcome of the first Global Stocktake.

Following the conference, three workstreams were launched to help prepare the second conference in 2027. To spur action at national level, a first workstream focuses on the development of national roadmaps for the transition away from fossil fuels. These roadmaps serve as the engine for structural economic transformation, both on the supply and demand side of the energy system. As we pave the way toward the 2027 Conference co-hosted by Tuvalu and Ireland, how can frontrunner nations build roadmaps that accelerate fuel switching and deliver an equitable phase out?

Organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate of the Netherlands, this event features speakers from countries that have developed and are developing national roadmaps, as well as speakers that have in-depth knowledge regarding the technical and social aspects of national transitions away from fossil fuels.
