With the latest round of NDCs in, the focus must now shift from promises to implementation, and implementation happens at home. As geopolitical volatility, energy shocks and rising costs compete for governments’ attention and threaten cooperation, countries need climate policy that holds steady.

Climate councils are one way to support this. They bring evidence, coherence and accountability to how countries deliver their NDCs and long-term strategies, and continuity when governments change.

This event launches new research from World Resources Institute and Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment on the experiences of climate advisory councils in Chile, Guatemala, and Mexico—what has enabled or constrained their influence and the value that stakeholders across sectors see in their contributions. It provides the first comparative assessment of the longest-running climate advisory councils in Latin America along with lessons for audiences interested in the role of climate councils in accountable climate governance.

Camilo Cornejo Martinez will present the paper followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

This event will be followed in the Mexico Pavilion by "Mexico’s Climate Change Council (C3): Challenges and Perspectives."
