The Nature Crime Alliance (NCA) and Global Forest Watch (GFW), hosted by World Resources Institute, are bringing together practitioners from civil society, law enforcement and Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLCs) for an information exchange on how geospatial monitoring technologies can be leveraged to counter forest crimes. 

Participants will hear perspectives from different sectors on how these technologies are being used to tackle crimes such as illegal logging and mining, which threaten forests around the world. 

The session will focus on four key areas: 

  • Using geospatial data to inform law enforcement operations, drawing on Conservation Allies’ work with partners in Madagascar
  • Using geospatial data to support territorial monitoring, with perspectives from IPLC representatives
  • Using geospatial data to support legal cases, with insights from the Specialized Bureau on Environmental Crimes in Peru’s Public Prosecutor’s Office
  • Innovative uses of geospatial data in aligned approaches, based on the management of conservation incentivization payments by Guatemala’s National Forest Institute (INAB) 

The session will include presentations in English and Spanish, with interpretation available into French, Spanish and English.
