The Future of the Workforce in a Sustainable Ocean Economy
The transition towards a sustainable ocean economy is a major opportunity for job creation, offering new and diverse roles while supporting environmental and social goals. From renewable energy and sustainable fisheries to conservation and environmental finance, the sustainable ocean economy is poised to become a significant source of employment - which could grow by 51 million jobs by 2050, reaching 184 million people.
This webinar will showcase The Future of the Workforce in a Sustainable Ocean Economy, a Blue Paper recently commissioned by the Ocean Panel which provides a glimpse of what a sustainable ocean economy may look like for people over the next 25 years. Drawing on the best available data, literature and in-depth expert consultation, the lead authors of this paper will:
- Outline current employment in the ocean economy;
- Examine how this might change over coming decades for a range of ocean sectors in a sustainable ocean economy;
- Detail the steps needed to ensure a just transition towards a sustainable ocean economy where sustainable production, effective protection and equitable prosperity can exist hand in hand.
There will be the opportunity for audience questions to be submitted to the Blue Paper lead authors.
